Switching from console to PC should not mean leaving every badge, level, and cosmetic behind. Apex Legends supports cross-progression, but there’s an important detail that catches players off guard: your progress belongs to an EA Account, not simply to the console or PC account you’re playing on.

If your account suddenly looks brand new, don’t start unlinking things at random. There’s a safer order for checking what happened.

Quick answer: How does cross-progression work?

Apex Legends enables cross-progression automatically for players across supported PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2 platforms. To see the same Apex profile, the platform you’re using must be connected to the EA Account that already holds your Apex progress.

Check your account first at EA’s Connected Accounts portal. If you’re signed in to the wrong EA Account or the wrong platform profile, correct that sign-in issue before making changes to account links. EA explicitly states that Apex progress cannot be transferred from one EA Account to another in its official cross-progression guide.

Before changing anything: Know which account has your progress

Think of the EA Account as the home of your Apex progression. Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo accounts are ways to access that home. Linking an entirely different EA Account will not carry your old progress across.

Before you start:

  • Identify the EA Account you used when you originally earned the progress or made purchases.
  • Make sure you can sign in to that EA Account and access its associated email for security codes.
  • Identify the platform account you normally use to launch Apex Legends.
  • If you’re troubleshooting missing cosmetics, note which platform originally displayed the missing items. Some content and Coins may be platform-specific.

The last point matters. A different Coin balance or certain missing platform-exclusive items is not necessarily evidence that your entire account was reset. EA identifies those exceptions in its cross-progression FAQ.

Step 1: Check the EA Account you’re actually using

  1. Open EA Account settings and sign in to the EA Account you believe contains your Apex history.
  2. Go to Connected Accounts.
  3. Look for the platform service you’re using, such as PlayStation, Xbox, or Steam.
  4. Compare what you see with the platform account you use to start Apex.

If those accounts don’t match, don’t make a guess and relink everything. First confirm which EA Account actually holds your progress. You may have created a second EA Account without realizing it, or you may be signed in to the wrong one.

There’s a useful exception: EA’s account-linking instructions note that connected Nintendo Accounts may not appear in the Connected Accounts tab. If you’re playing on Switch 2, don’t treat that missing portal entry alone as proof of a broken link; use EA’s console-specific linking guidance.

Step 2: Check your PC or console sign-in

### If you play through the EA app

Look at the EA Account signed into the app. EA says the identity is visible in the app’s top-right corner. If the account doesn’t match the one holding your Apex progress, sign in with the correct account and check Apex again.

### If you play through Steam

Apex appearing at Level 1 after switching to Steam often points to an account-link mismatch. Check the EA portal to see whether Steam is linked to the intended EA Account. If it is not linked, follow EA’s linking instructions.

If Steam is linked to a different EA Account, pause before unlinking. EA does document ways to relink, but removing a link can cut off access to progress or purchases until the correct original account is restored. Make sure you know exactly which account owns your Apex data and consider contacting EA support if you’re unsure.

### If you play on PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch 2

Sign in with the console account that was originally connected to your Apex EA Account. EA’s missing-progress troubleshooting says to confirm both the console sign-in and its EA Account association. If you are launching the game for the first time, use EA’s official platform-linking process rather than linking to an arbitrary account just to get past the sign-in screen.

Step 3: Understand what unlinking does – and doesn’t do

This is the most important warning in the guide: unlinking does not move your Apex Legends progress to a new EA Account.

EA warns that unlinking a platform account can temporarily remove your access to progress, rewards, and in-game purchases. Relinking that platform to the original EA Account can restore access to progress that remains on that account; connecting it to some other EA Account will not transfer the old profile.

Don’t use unlinking as an experimental fix for missing skins. If you cannot identify the correct original EA Account, start with account recovery or EA support instead.

Why old accounts sometimes have different content

Cross-progression arrived in October 2023. If you had multiple Apex profiles linked to one EA Account during the original migration, EA’s merging system combined them into one cross-progression profile, using the highest-level profile as the base. Those old merges are not something you can rerun whenever you change platforms.

If you had Apex progress spread across different EA Accounts, those separate EA Accounts were not merged. EA says progress cannot be moved between them, even by unlinking and relinking the platform accounts.

EA also says certain content lost or excluded during the original merge cannot be restored. That is frustrating, but an accurate explanation is more helpful than a guide promising a guaranteed recovery that EA does not offer. You can read the historical distinctions in EA’s cross-progression support article.

Missing progress troubleshooting checklist

Your level reset to 1 on Steam. Check whether Steam is connected to the EA Account where you played Apex previously. Don’t assume Steam itself stores your old progress.

Your cosmetics are gone after switching consoles. Confirm the console user/profile and linked EA Account. Also check whether the missing content is platform-specific.

You can play, but the account looks unfamiliar. Stop and identify the EA Account currently active. You may be viewing a different Apex profile rather than a reset version of your old one.

You lost access after unlinking. EA’s support guidance says relinking the platform to the original EA Account may restore access to the progress that remains there. Do not relink to a random new EA Account expecting a transfer.

Your old account was merged during the 2023 rollout. Review the merger limitations before attempting more changes. A one-time historic merge is different from everyday cross-progression across platforms.

Nothing matches and you’re still missing content. Contact EA Help with the EA ID, platform account information, and a clear description of what is missing. Avoid posting account credentials or recovery codes publicly.

Cross-progression is supposed to make switching platforms easier, not turn account management into a boss fight. Start by confirming the EA Account that owns your progress. That one check is more useful – and far less risky – than disconnecting everything and hoping your skins reappear.
